Ghorpade Makes History in U Mumba’s Tight Win

U Mumba’s night began on the right note with Lilian Bardet securing a 2-1 win over Kirill Gerassimenko, but the evening truly lit up when Yashaswini Ghorpade stepped onto the table.

Facing the red-hot and undefeated Fan Siqi, Yashaswini played fearless table tennis. After storming through the first game 11–5, she lost momentum in the second but found herself in a tense decider, trailing 2–7 and later 8–10. On the brink of defeat, the youngster pulled off a stunning comeback, saving two game points and sealing the tie on a Golden Point (11–10)—handing Fan her first loss of the season.

Momentum stayed with U Mumba as Akash Pal and Bernadette Szocs secured a 2-1 win in the mixed doubles. Though Payas Jain responded with a clean sweep of Akash Pal (3–0), Szocs wrapped up the tie in style, blanking Poymantee Baisya 3–0 to clinch the win for U Mumba.

The awards reflected the impact:

  • Indian Player of the Tie – Payas Jain
  • Foreign Player of the Tie – Bernadette Szocs
  • Shot of the Tie – Yashaswini Ghorpade

U Mumba TT now moves to second place in the table with two matches remaining in the league stage.

Jaipur Patriots Outclass SG Pipers in One-Sided Contest

In the earlier tie, Jaipur Patriots flexed their squad depth and class in an 11–4 demolition of Ahmedabad SG Pipers, with India’s Jeet Chandra stealing the spotlight. The 23-year-old stunned Germany’s Ricardo Walther, ranked 34 in the world and a World Championships silver medallist, in a thrilling 2-1 win — his biggest victory in IndianOil UTT yet.

Kanak Jha gave Jaipur a strong start, sweeping Divyansh Srivastava 3-0. Britt Eerland followed suit with a dominant 3-0 win over Giorgia Piccolin, giving Jaipur early control. Although Walther and Ayhika Mukherjee pulled one back in the mixed doubles, Jeet restored Jaipur’s grip with a gutsy performance against Walther. Sreeja Akula then wrapped up the tie with a confident 2-1 win over Ayhika.

Player Awards:

  • Indian Player & Shot of the Tie – Jeet Chandra
  • Foreign Player of the Tie – Britt Eerland

With this win, Jaipur Patriots surged to the top of the standings and look like strong title contenders as the tournament enters its second week.

Dream UTT Juniors: U Mumba and Kolkata Storm into Final
