The trio of Celistina, Mayuri, and Sarita gave India its first medal at the event, securing bronze in the Women’s Elite Team Sprint. Their podium finish on Day 1 is not just a testament to their growing synergy, but also a significant marker of India’s rising presence in women’s track cycling.

Racing against seasoned international teams, the Indian squad showed solid coordination, impressive start times, and promising acceleration over the final laps—crucial indicators as they eye continental domination in the coming year.

Rojit Reaches the Gold Medal Final

India’s star sprinter Rojit Singh continued his rich vein of form, powering his way into the final of the Men’s Elite Sprint. Having qualified through the heats and semifinals with confidence, Rojit is now in contention for gold or silver, showcasing India’s growing depth in men’s sprint cycling.

Earlier in the day, Rojit had also reached the semifinals in the Keirin event, reflecting his versatility and resilience across disciplines.

Silver for David Beckham: A Sprint Sensation

In one of the most competitive races of the day, David Beckham Elkatohchoongo clinched a silver medal in the Men’s Sprint—a category stacked with top-tier riders from across Asia and Europe. Beckham’s explosive top speed and tactical awareness earned him a spot on the podium, reinforcing his place among Asia’s sprinting elite.

This silver medal comes just weeks after he stunned the cycling world by breaking Ronaldo Singh’s national record in the flying 200m time trial at the UCI Track Nations Cup in March.

Beckham clocked 9.671s, smashing the previous mark of 9.877s held by Ronaldo. Though he bowed out to Japan’s Shinji Nokano in the knockout rounds, his time sent a clear message: India is coming.

Road to the Asian Games 2026

This Hong Kong outing is part of India’s larger roadmap toward Asian Games 2026. With Rojit, Beckham, and the women’s team now consistently battling among the continent’s best, the momentum is clearly building.

In recent years, India has invested heavily in its track program, and results are starting to show—faster times, deeper squads, and regular podiums at international events.

In Summary:

  • Bronze: Women’s Elite Sprint Team – Celistina, Mayuri, Sarita
  • Silver: David Beckham – Men’s Sprint
  • Finalist: Rojit Singh – Men’s Elite Sprint (Gold medal match ahead); also in Keirin semifinals

The track is fast, the future is faster. India’s sprint cyclists are no longer the underdogs—they’re contenders.
