India’s latest javelin throw sensation, Sachin Yadav, will not participate in the Indian Open Throws Competition, scheduled for March 20-21 at Reliance Academy in Navi Mumbai.

The 25-year-old athlete is still recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, making him unfit for competition.

His coach, Naval Singh, confirmed the news, stating, don’t think he will be able to participate. His ankle is not healed, and it won’t heal that quickly. Our target is the Federation Cup.

A Breakout Performance at the National Games

Sachin Yadav burst onto the national stage after a stunning gold-medal-winning throw of 84.39m at the 38th National Games. Not only did he achieve a new personal best, but he also broke the long-standing National Games record of 82.23m, set by Rajinder Singh in 2015.

However, his performance came with a price. Sachin twisted his ankle during his first throw but managed to stay composed and deliver his record-breaking effort on his fifth attempt.

Despite the injury, his performance was remarkable. The 84.39m throw made him the fourth-best Indian javelin thrower in history, behind:

1. Neeraj Chopra 89.94m (Olympic gold and silver medalist)

2. Shivpal Singh 86.23m

3. Davinder Singh Kang 84.57m

4. Sachin Yadav 84.39m

Chasing the World Athletics Championship Qualification Mark

Although Sachin’s 84.39m throw was impressive, it fell just over a metre short of the 85.50m automatic qualification mark for the 2025 World Athletics Championships. He acknowledged the near-miss, saying, My goal was to achieve the World Athletics automatic qualification mark, but I missed. I am close to my goal and should be able to achieve it in the next competition.

Consistent 80m+ Throws and Career Progression

Sachin’s rise in Indian athletics has been fueled by his consistent performances over 80m, marking him as one of the country’s most promising javelin throwers.

His journey over the past year includes:

National Open Athletics Championships 2023 First 80m+ throw (80.04m)

Federation Cup 2023 Third place (80.27m)

Indian Grand Prix 3 (Bengaluru) Winner (82.69m)

All India Police Athletics Championships Winner (84.21m)

National Games 2024 Winner (84.39m)

His five consecutive 80m+ throws establish him as a strong contender for future international events.

What’s Next for Sachin Yadav?

While he will miss the Indian Open Throws Competition, which features top Indian javelin throwers like Sahil Silwal, Kishore Jena, and Vikrant Malik, his focus remains on recovering in time for the Federation Cup.

With dedicated rehabilitation and training, Sachin is determined to hit the 85.50m mark and secure his place at the World Athletics Championships. Given his rapid progress, he remains one of India’s brightest hopes in javelin throw, following in the footsteps of Neeraj Chopra.

For now, fans will eagerly await his return, hoping to see him achieve even greater milestones in the near future.
