Day 3 of the events at the National Games weightlifting 2024 witnessed some intense battles and record-breaking performances, with lifters from across the country showcasing their strength and determination

Men’s 81kg Category:

Madhya Pradesh’s Valluri Ajaya Babu clinched the gold medal with a commanding lead of 11 kg over his nearest rival. Ajaya lifted 147 kg in the snatch and followed it up with a massive 175 kg lift in the clean and jerk, securing a total of 322 kg.

West Bengal’s Achinta Sheuli put up a valiant fight, lifting 142 kg in the snatch and 171 kg in his first clean and jerk attempt. However, his two unsuccessful attempts at 181 kg meant he had to settle for silver with a total of 313 kg. Maharashtra’s Sairaj Pardeshi rounded off the podium with a bronze-winning total of 311 kg.

Women’s 71kg Category:

Andhra Pradesh’s S. Pallavi emerged victorious, securing gold with a total lift of 212 kg. She began with a 90 kg lift in snatch, later improving to 94 kg, and completed a successful 118 kg lift in the clean and jerk.

Harjinder Kaur of Punjab claimed the silver with a total of 205 kg, successfully lifting 90 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk. However, two failed attempts at 123 kg cost her the gold. Tamil Nadu’s Lekha Maalya bagged the bronze with a total lift of 195 kg.

Men’s 89kg Category:

In a thrilling contest, Ajay Singh of the Services Sports Control Board secured gold with a total lift of 321 kg. Trailing Assam’s Suditya, who led with a best lift of 141 kg in the snatch, Ajay successfully lifted 181 kg in his final clean and jerk attempt to edge past Suditya’s total of 319 kg.

Punjab’s Shubham Kumar clinched the bronze with a total of 315 kg.

Women’s 76kg Category:

Punjab dominated the women’s 76kg event, securing both gold and silver. Harmanpreet Kaur led the field with a gold-winning total of 210 kg, lifting 92 kg in snatch and 118 kg in clean and jerk.

Her state-mate Heena took silver with a total of 208 kg, recording lifts of 90 kg in snatch and 118 kg in clean and jerk. Haryana’s Rakhi took home the bronze with a total lift of 190 kg.

Men’s 96kg Category:

The final event of the day saw Punjab’s Dilbag Singh win the gold medal. After lifting 152 kg in the snatch, he went on to lift 185 kg in the clean and jerk, taking his total weight lift to 337 kg.

Parv Chaudhary of Uttar Pradesh secured silver with the best lift of 143 kg in the snatch and 173 kg in the clean and jerk, bringing his total to 316 kg. The bronze medal went to Suresh Kumar Yadav, who lifted a total of 312 kg.
