It has been a mixed week for Indian Table Tennis Players at WTT Contender Doha

Our players including Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah had a good run in the Men’s Doubles Category.

In Men’s Singles, Manav Thakkar (WR 58) defeated Ovidiu Ionescu (WR 43) in straight sets before losing to the promising youngster from Japan Sora Matsushima (WR 31) in straight sets who eventually lost to the Champion Tomokazu Harimoto.

Meanwhile, India No:1 Sharath Kamal had a tough outing in Doha as he lost to the Qualifier HuangYou zheng in the second round as he got a bye in the first round.

In Women’s Singles, India No: 1 Sreeja Akula got a bye in the first round and she defeated Jieni Shao (WR 53) in the second round before losing to the 5th seed Qian Tianyi (WR 11) in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Manika Batra couldn’t do much in this tournament as she lost to Briett Eerland (WR 42) in the second round and she got a bye in the first round.

Some promising performances from our youngsters Diya Chitale (WR 122) beat Ayhika Mukherjee in the final qualifying round who eventually went down against Jieni Shao in a tight 5 sets.

In Men’s Doubles, Sharath Kamal and Snehit Suravajjulla beat the Wildcards Abdul Wahhab Brothers before losing to the top seed Sora Matsushima and Tomokazu Harimoto in the second round.

Meanwhile, Our India No: 1 Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah beat the qualifiers in the first round and second round respectively before losing to the Champion Xiang Peng and Xu Yingbin in the Semifinals of the WTT Star Contender Doha

In Women’s Doubles, The Mukherjee Sisters lost to Miyuu Kihara and Miwa Harimoto in the first round.

The Mukherjee Sisters were the only participant from India in the Women’s Doubles Category.

In the Mixed Doubles, We had a disappointing outing as our 4th seed Diya Chitale and Manush Shah lost to the qualifier Sora Matsushima and Miwa Harimoto in the second round.

Our Second Pair, Manika Batra and Manav Thakkar lost to the Wild Card Chen Yuanyu and Chen Yi in the first round.

Our Indian Players are looking to bounce back in the Muscat Contender after a mixed campaign in Doha Star Contender.
