The 8th Elite Men’s Boxing Nationals Championships from 6th-13th January in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, delivered an electrifying spectacle.

The tournament wasn’t just a showcase of India’s top boxing talent but also a proving ground for rising stars eager to make their mark.

With big names gracing the ring and fresh faces stepping up with fierce determination, the event became a thrilling blend of experience and ambition.

Results at a glance

Jadumani Singh, the rising star of Indian boxing and a semi-finalist at the Asian U-22 Championships Astana 2024, delivered a stellar performance in the flyweight (47-50kg) category. Facing Naothoi Kongkham in the finals, Jadumani showcased unmatched skill and precision, securing a resounding victory by unanimous decision.

His triumph gave the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) the perfect start on finals day, reaffirming their dominance in the tournament.

Jadumani’s journey to glory was nothing short of remarkable. Throughout the competition, he displayed absolute control, winning every bout either by a commanding 5:0 score or through “Referee Stops Contest” decisions.

In the semi-finals, he outclassed last year’s silver medalist, Anshul Punia, with a clinical performance.

Meanwhile, in the bantamweight (50-55kg) category, Manish Rathore, representing the All India Police, brought his A-game to the ring. In a nail-biting final, Manish edged past Pawan Bartwal in a split decision.

Sachin Siwach (SSCB), a name synonymous with excellence in Indian boxing, added another feather to his illustrious cap.

The decorated pugilist, known for his stellar achievements, showcased his class once again by clinching the Lightweight (55-60kg) championship in style.

In the finals, Sachin delivered a flawless performance, sweeping his opponent Nikhil aside with a commanding 5:0 unanimous decision.

His dominance throughout the tournament was nothing short of remarkable, as he secured victory in every bout with the same decisive margin, never once appearing to break a sweat.

Abhinash Jamwal of Himachal Pradesh delivered one of the most sensational runs, carving his name into the tournament’s history books.

The welterweight (60-65kg) category saw Jamwal emerge as the ultimate dark horse, toppling two of the most formidable names in Indian boxing.

His campaign began with a stunning upset over 2022 Youth World Champion Vanshaj Kumar in the early rounds , a victory that sent shockwaves through the competition.

Abhinash then carried this momentum into the semifinals, where he faced the seasoned Shiva Thapa, one of the biggest names in Indian boxing. In a thrilling bout, Jamwal edged out Thapa.

In the championship bout, Jamwal showed no signs of slowing down. With precision, poise, and unrelenting determination, he outclassed Amit in the final, securing a unanimous decision victory to claim the welterweight crown.

Hitesh (SSCB) showcased a commanding performance in the Light Middleweight (65-70kg) category.

In the final, Hitesh outclassed Hemanth Yadav, sealing his claim to the title. He was given a walkover in initial round and picked up the pace winning all the remaining matches 5:0.In the Middleweight (70-75kg) division, Nikhil Dubey of the Railway Sports Promotion Board emerged victorious after a hard-fought final against Deepak.

Nikhil’s superior tactics and consistency earned him a 4:1 split decision victory, clinching the middleweight crown.

Lakshya Chahar (SSCB), dominated every bout with unanimous decision victories in the Light Heavyweight (75-80kg) category.

In the finals, Lakshya’s edge in technique and strategy secured him the title against Dhruv Singh. In the Cruiserweight (80-85kg) division, Sumit, representing the All India Police (AIP), added another feather to their cap.

Sumit faced off against Jugnoo in a fiercely competitive final. The bout ended in a 4:1 split decision in Sumit’s favor, marking AIP’s second title win of the tournament.

In the Heavyweight (85-90kg) category in boxing national, Vishal showcased his power and precision to overcome Naman Tanwar in a thrilling final.

Ultimately, Vishal edged out Naman with a 4:1 split decision, earning him the coveted title.

The Super Heavyweight (90-90+kg) category witnessed a commanding performance by Narender from Uttarakhand. Facing Anshul Gill in the finals, Narender left no room for doubt, delivering a dominant display of strength and technique.

He secured a resounding 5:0 unanimous decision victory, asserting his superiority in the division and bringing glory to Uttarakhand.

Overall, SSCB won 5 out of 10 titles winning their 3rd consecutive team title.
