On November 23, 2024, Gulveer Singh etched his name in the record books once again by rewriting his own national record in the 10000m event at the Hachioji Long Distance Meet 2024 in Japan.
Along with it, he also manages to win gold by outpacing every runner in all the other groups of this event at Kamiyugi Park Athletic Stadium with an excellent time of 27:14.88 and also slashing an incredible 27 seconds from his previous national record of 27:41.81, which he set earlier this year at Ten Track Meet in California.
Gulveer’s new personal best is also the fastest Asian time of the year, surpassing 27:17.46 clocked by Japan’s Jun Kasai in May.
This record-breaking time was the 33rd-best time in the 10,000m this year, and it also placed him eighth on the all-time Asian list for the 10,000m.
No other Indian athlete features in the top 100. Gulveer also holds the national record in the 5,000m race.
In June, he surpassed Avinash Sable’s national record of 13:19.30 seconds set in 2023 at the Portland Track Festival by clocking 13:18.92s.
In September, he then shed seven seconds off his own record in the Japan athletics meet with a timing of 13:11.82.
The Track, which is one of the most coveted events of athletics, where it is difficult to break and create new national records, with very few athletes from India like Avinash Sable having managed to make a great impact in this regard, will now be joined by Gulveer Singh, who is also taking a great stride in this area.
