Sumit Nagal’s recent form has been a rough patch, marked by a string of early exits since the Cincinnati Masters.

Adding to his struggles, injuries have plagued him, forcing him to miss crucial Davis Cup ties. The ongoing physical setbacks have cast a shadow over what had initially promised to be a strong season for the Indian tennis star.

His dip in form, combined with his ranking slide, has made the road ahead even tougher as he seeks to find his rhythm on the international circuit once again.

Currently ranked World No. 78, Sumit Nagal is gearing up for a crucial week at the ATP 250 Stockholm Open, where he has secured a direct entry into the main draw.

He is set to face Quentin Halys of France, ranked 100th, in what will be their first-ever meeting on the court. With Nagal’s recent form and results, this match offers him a golden opportunity to break his losing streak and regain his momentum.

This match can very well set the tone for his overall performance at the Stockholm Open.

How far can Sumit go in this tournament?

The Stockholm Open has attracted a stacked field this year, with top seeds Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Grigor Dimitrov, and Tommy Paul headlining the draw.

Additionally, seasoned players like Stan Wawrinka and Matteo Berrettini are also competing, making the road to the final a challenging one.
For Sumit Nagal, every match will be a test of his endurance and skill.

If Nagal can secure a Round one victory over Halys, his next challenge will be No. 3 seed Grigor Dimitrov.

Dimitrov has enjoyed a redemption season in 2024, reaching the quarterfinals at both Roland Garros and the US Open, as well as making a finals appearance at the Miami Open.

However, despite his resurgence, Dimitrov has shown signs of inconsistency over the past few weeks.
This opens the door for Nagal to present a decent challenge. If he can exploit Dimitrov’s weaknesses and maintain a high level of play, Nagal could orchestrate one of the biggest upsets of his career.

A win here would do wonders for his confidence and potentially put his season back on track.

Beyond Dimitrov, Nagal’s draw doesn’t get any easier as he possibly faces Matteo Berettini
(ITA)/Aleksandar Kovacevic (USA) in the quarter finals and possibly meets Tallon Griekspoor
(NED)/ Corentin Moutet (FRA)/ Lorenzo Sonego (ITA)/ Casper Ruud (NOR) in the semifinals.

For Sumit, every tournament carries immense significance as the 2024 season nears its end. He
must reset and find his form before the key events in 2025, particularly as he aims to replicate his strong performance at the Australian Open
