Putting off the disappointment at Roland Garros, Yuki Bhambri seems to have regained his
footing on the tour, reaching consecutive semi-finals.
With the grass season underway, Yuki and his partner Albano Olivetti have advanced to the
semi-finals of the ATP 250 Stuttgart Open (Boss Open).
The road to the semis included defeating No. 2 seeds Michael Venus and Neal Skupsi 6-4, 6-2 in the R16. It is worth noting that Neal is the reigning Wimbledon champion in the men’s doubles category, and a victory against this duo at a grass court tournament should be appreciated enough.
Bhambri/Olivetti clinically won the first set 6-4 owing to their flawless second serves, taking
a crucial break in the third game. With the wind in their sails, they dominated the second set
breaking Skupsi/Venus in the third and fifth games, owing to their fantastic first serve
performance.
In the quarterfinals, they faced the French pairing of Theo Arribage and Sadio Doumbia and
registered an impressive victory with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2. Bhambri/Olivetti barely had any
competition from their opponents as they took charge in the entire match with their aces
coupled with a high percentage of serve points won.
What is next for Bhambri/Olivetti?
In the semi-finals, they will face Robert Galloway and Julian Cash. Galloway/Cash won the
Surbiton Trophy (Challenger Event) last week, while Bhambri/Glasspool reached the semi-
finals. Nevertheless, continuing the momentum from their recent successes should help them
overcome this semifinal hurdle.
With all the top 4 seeds in the men’s doubles section defeated, Yuki and Albano have a great
chance to have a shot at the prize as the draw is now wide open.
