36th National Games in Gujarat in September

Gujarat will host the National Game for first time from 27 September to 10 October.

 

Initially planned in Goa, the national games has been postponed for last six years.

The games were to be held in November 2016. After two delays in 2018 and 2019 due to the state’s inability to create adequate infrastructure, the Games were further postponed to 2020.

After a gap of seven years, the event will be held in six cities in Gujarat

Over 34 sporting events will be held across the State. More than 7,000 top sportspersons of the country are expected to showcase their might in indoor and outdoor sports such as athletics, hockey, football, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, judo, khushti, kabaddi, kho-kho, mallakhambha and yogansana.

The various sporting events will be spread across the State covering Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.

At the last games held in 2015 it was Services which topped the medal tally followed by host Kerala & Haryana.

Sajan Prakash had won a total of 8 medals for host Kerala in Swimming, while Dipa Karmakar had won all the five golds in offer in Gymnastics.

Swimming had the highest number of Gold Medals [50] on offer followed by Athletics [44] & Shooting [38]/

Canoeing had thirty six gold medals on offer at the last games.

A total of thirty seven teams participated in the last games.
