Treesa & Gayatri were the winners of the selection trials held by Badminton Association of India.

Indian team is going to miss the services of star and in-form women doubles pair of Treesa Jolly & Gayatri Gopichand. Gayatri has been advised rest to recover from her hip joint strain. Treesa & Gayatri were the winners of the women doubles of the much spoken trials being held by BAI last month. This comes after N Sikki Reddy opted out of the tournament after suffering abdomen tear. This ruled out the top ranked Indian pair from the Uber Cup.

Simran Singhi and Ritika Thakkar, who had finished fourth in the ranking during the selection trials, were included by the selectors in the 10-member squad following Sikki’s injury.

Gayatri & Treesa had missed Badminton Asia Championships 2022

The young pair of Treesa & Gayatri surprised one and all by making it to the SemiFinals at the prestigious All-England Championships in the March this year. They both have been in some good form showing promising signs in the domestic & international tournaments. Gayatri & Treesa had also missed the Badminton Asia Championships 2022 raising concerns on their participation in Uber cup 2022.

While BAI could make a replacement after Sikki/Ashwini had to opt out it was little too late in Gayatri’s case as the deadline to make changes are over. Treesa however has travelled with the team to Thailand and will need to play with someone new within the team during the tournament. Besides Treesa, the other doubles players in the squad include Tanisha Crasto, Shruti Mishra, Simran and Ritika.

The singles players in the team include PV Sindhu, Aakarshi Kashyap, Ashmita Chaliha, Unnati Hooda.

India are in Group D along side South Korea, Canada and the United States in Uber Cup Final.

With No Saina Nehwal around all eyes will be on PV Sindhu to guide the inexperienced team in Uber Cup.

The tournament starts on 8 May for India with first tie against Canada.
