India’s Shooting Squad Set to Shine at ISSF World Cup in Argentina and Peru

India’s national shooting fraternity is gearing up for an exciting campaign as the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has officially announced the full squad for two upcoming ISSF World Cups in Argentina and Peru, starting April 1.

With competitions spanning rifle, pistol, and shotgun disciplines, the team is a balanced blend of seasoned campaigners and emerging talents ready to make their mark on the international stage.

One of the most talked-about inclusions is that of Saurabh Chaudhary, the accomplished pistol shooter who has been in the background for some time.

Having raised his standards significantly at the national championships and the recent national trials, Saurabh’s return to the squad comes with high expectations. Missing out on the Paris Games last year only fuels his determination for a fresh start.

He will compete in his pet event the mens 10m air pistol and also feature in the air pistol mixed team event. The mixed pistol teams have been strategically formed, with one pairing of Saurabh alongside Suruchi, and another combining the talents of Paris Olympics medallist Manu Bhaker with Ravinder.

Manu, already a proven performer, will additionally compete in the women’s 10m air pistol and 25m pistol events, underscoring the squads strength in the pistol category.

The rifle discipline also boasts an exciting mix of experience and youthful promise. The mixed team in rifle events features two pairs. The first team, consisting of RBP and Arya Rajesh Borse, is set to bring fresh energy to the women’s 10m air rifle category.

The second team, featuring Narmada and Arjun Babuta, is equally promising. Arjun Babuta, who narrowly missed a medal at the Paris Games by finishing fourth, now has the opportunity to bounce back on the world stage.

In addition, Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar has been named in the 50m rifle 3 positions squad a move that highlights the NRAI’s confidence in his ability to perform under pressure. Notably, while Swapnil Kusale, a top performer at the recent trials, was edged out of the final squad, veteran Chain Singh’s inclusion speaks volumes about the value placed on experience and reliability.

In the womens 50m rifle 3 positions event, the squad features Sift Kaur Samra, who will be joined by Ashi Chouksey and Shriyanka Sadangi. Their selection reflects the growing depth of talent in Indian womens shooting, particularly in disciplines that demand precision and consistent performance.

Shotgun squad
Extending beyond pistol and rifle, the squad also represents strong contenders from the shotgun disciplines. In the trap events, Prithviraj Tondaiman and Zoravar Singh Sandhu are set to represent India, while the skeet discipline includes experienced competitors such as Ganemat Sekhon for the women and Anantjeet Singh Naruka for the men.

These selections underscore the comprehensive approach adopted by the NRAI to field a competitive team across all shooting categories.

With the World Cups poised to serve as a crucial platform for gaining international exposure and fine-tuning competitive skills, this well-rounded squad is more than ready to seize the opportunity. As April approaches, the stage is set for Indian shooters to demonstrate their mettle and bring glory to the nation on the global arena.
