Dehradun’s Bhagirathi Hall was abuzz with excitement as it hosted the basketball events of the 38th National Games. The men’s finals brought a highly anticipated rematch between Punjab and Tamil Nadu, echoing their clash at the 74th Senior National Basketball Championships.

This time, however, Punjab was determined to rewrite the script.

In a nail-biting contest, Punjab emerged victorious, clinching the gold medal with a final score of 63-57. Both teams, currently the best in the country, exchanged leads multiple times throughout the game.

It was Punjab’s robust defense and swift counterattacks that proved to be the game-changer in the last quarter, securing their triumph. Tamil Nadu, despite their valiant efforts, had to settle for the silver medal.

Meanwhile, Delhi showcased their prowess by defeating the Services team to claim the bronze medal.

The women’s finals saw Tamil Nadu women delivering a dominating performance against Kerala. The final scoreline read 79-46, reflecting Tamil Nadu’s aggressive and relentless style of play from the very first quarter.

Their sharp three-pointers and fast breaks left Kerala struggling to keep up, sealing Tamil Nadu’s gold medal victory in a commanding fashion.

The bronze medal match in the women’s category was a thrilling contest between Karnataka and Punjab. Karnataka managed to edge past Punjab with a slim one-point victory, making it one of the closest matches of the tournament.

The final moments were intense, with Punjab attempting a last-second shot, but Karnataka’s defense held firm, securing their place on the podium.

The winners were felicitated in a grand ceremony by Uttarakhand’s sports minister, Ms. Rekha Arya, and delegate Arya Varshana, adding a touch of grandeur to the event.

The basketball finals at the 38th National Games not only highlighted the competitive spirit of the teams but also showcased the rising standards of basketball in India.
