On the day one of the ISSF world shooting championships Indian shooters draw a blank.
Much was expected from the six pistol shooters in the 10m Air Pistol competition but they failed miserably.
The day started with Men 10m Air Pistol qualifying wherein Shiva Narwal and Arjun Cheema were in the first relay. Both the shooters started off well, till third series were in the mix. However as it got to the business end they fell off the curve eventually notched up 579 (shiva) and 577 (arjun).
The second relay saw Sarabjot marking the targets but in the first two series itself he was left way back with too much to push. He finally scored 578 which placed him at 18th rank.
The Bronze Medal for Men Team
The only silver lining or we may say Bronze Lining came from the team competition which saw these guys win the bronze medal.
Amidst the disappointment all eyes were glued to the women pistol where again four Paris quotas were up for grab. Palak who shot in the first relay came up with a very average 570 that put her in 22nd place with second relay to go.
The pressure build up on Esha who was expected to do well and save the day for Indians. Esha managed a 572 which was far away from the qualifying mark. She was placed 32nd while Divya had a forgetful outing with a 566 yes Five Sixty Six in the world championships. She was placed 66th. The women team finished 11th.
In the skeet first day of the competition nothing great happened from Indian perspective as Anant 48/50 was 45th place, Angad 47/50 was 67th place and Gurjoat 47/50 was 69th
The women saw slightly better with Parinaaz at 71/75 at 17th place. While Ganemat with 70/75 was at 30th followed by Darshana 69/75 at 38th place.
Today there will be Three finals. Mixed team events in 10m Air Rifle and Air Pistol. The Women Skeet will also see the Finals
