National Games 2025: Maharashtra, Haryana register convincing wins in women’s competition; Haryana men’s bag a victory in a 12-goal encounter

Day 2 of the Hockey events at National Games 2025 commenced with Haryana Women defeating Karnataka Women 4-0 in Haridwar.

Captain Rani (6’, 24’), Ishika (34’) and Mahima Choudhary (51’) scored the goals for Haryana in their season opener.

With two losses in a row, Karnataka have slipped to the bottom of the Pool A standings.

Later in the day, Mizoram played out a 2-2 draw against Manipur at the Vandana Katariya Hockey Stadium.

Lily Chanu Mayengbam opened the scoring for the latter state in the sixth minute. F. Lalbiaksiami (9’, 17’) scored a brace to help Mizoram take a one-goal lead.

However, Manipur skipper Pinky Devi Thokchom found the back of the net in the 26th minute to level the scores.

In another women’s hockey encounter, Maharashtra beat hosts Uttarakhand 3-0, courtesy of goals from Sanika Chandrakant Mane (5’), Himanshi Sharad Gawande (8’), and Durga Raju Shinde (8’).

In the men’s competition, Odisha registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. Nitin Mukesh Tigga converted a penalty corner in the 53rd minute to guide his side to a victory.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu succumbed to a 1-2 loss against Maharashtra in the fifth match of the day.

Sathish B (35’) scored the only goal for the South Indian side, while Maharashtra captain Sunil Walmiki (34’) and Rohan Patil (46’) scored a goal each for the winning side.

Both players scored goals through penalty corners.
The final fixture of the day saw Haryana outclass Uttarakhand 8-4 in a goal fest.

The goal scorers for Haryana were Mandeep Mor (14’, 38’, 43’ 56’, 58’), Rohit (14’), Rimanshu (17’), and Pankaj (37’).

Hosts Uttarakhand struggled in the first three quarters but had a great run in the last 15 minutes, scoring four goals.

Captain Lalit Negi (48’), Suraj Kumar (57’), Vishal Kumar (59’), and Divit Bisht (60’) got their names on the scoresheet with one goal each.
