Haryana defeated Madhya Pradesh 4-1 to win the gold medal in the women’s hockey event at the National Games 2025.
Madhya Pradesh’s Chavan Aishwarya scored off a penalty corner in the fifth minute to hand her side an early lead in the game. However, they failed to hold onto their lead and had to settle for a silver medal.
Mahima Choudhary (37’), Ishika (45’, 50’), and Monika (55’) were the goal scorers for Haryana. They scored three goals off penalty corners from one player each and one field goal by Ishika.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand defeated Maharashtra 2-1 to bag the bronze medal in the women’s competition on Thursday.
Pramodni Lakra (12’) scored a field goal and captain Albela Rani Toppo (17’) converted a penalty corner to hand Jharkhand a 2-0 lead at half-time. Tanushree Dinesh Kadu found the back of the net in the 39th minute but it wasn’t enough as Maharashtra ended up on the losing side.
In the men’s event, Karnataka registered a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Uttar Pradesh at the Vandana Katariya Hockey Stadium in Haridwar.
Faraz Khan converted a penalty corner in the opening minute of the match for UP, while Shamanth Cs found the back of the net in the eighth minute to level the scores 1-1.
Bharath Mahalingappa Kurtakoti (18’) and Abharan Sudev B (39’) scored off a penalty corner each for Karnataka to strengthen their position. Uttar Pradesh’s Sharda Nand Tiwari converted a penalty corner in the 45th minute but they fell short at the end and finished second on the podium.
Earlier in the day, Maharashtra beat Punjab 1-0 to clinch the bronze medal, courtesy of Venkatesh Kenche’s field goal in the 36th minute.
