Sumit Nagal is all set to make his ATP Rolex Shanghai Masters debut on October 2, 2024, at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in Shanghai.
This is a hard-court tennis tournament. Nagal face China’s Wu Yibing in the first round of 128. Wu Yibing is currently ranked 96th in the ATP rankings, while Nagal holds the 83rd spot, making him the highest-ranked Indian player.
This marks Nagal’s third ATP Masters main draw event of the year.
Fellow Indians Ramkumar Ramanathan will also participate in singles, while Rohan Bopanna and Yuki Bhambri will compete in men’s doubles with their respective partners.
Nagal has faced first-round exits in recent tournaments, losing six consecutive matches.
In contrast, Wu Yibing retired due to injury in his last match but won an ATP Challenger event last month. Wu Yibing also has home advantage.
A win for Nagal would significantly boost his morale and confidence. The contest between the two players promises to be intriguing.
Ramkumar Ramanathan secured a spot in the ATP Rolex Shanghai Masters 2024 main draw by winning two stunning qualifying rounds.
