Men’s & Women’s Boxing at the 38th National Games Witnesses Thrilling Encounters, as Lovlina Borgohain wins Gold
The men’s boxing at the National Games saw thrilling bouts, with the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) asserting its dominance across multiple weight categories. In the flyweight (51kg) division, SSCB’s Mandengbam Judumani secured a solid victory over Chandigarh’s Anshul Punia. The featherweight (57kg) match witnessed another SSCB triumph as Sachin outperformed Himachal Pradesh’s Ashish Kumar.
The light welterweight (63.5kg) category saw an intense battle, where SSCB’s Vanshaj emerged victorious against Assam’s Shiva Thapa. In the light middleweight (71kg), SSCB’s Hitesh Gulia overpowered Assam’s Abhinab Saikia with a commanding performance.
In the light heavyweight (80kg) SSCB’s Lakshya Chahar, who defeated Uttarakhand’s Himanshu Solanki in a hard-fought contest. Moving into the heavyweight (92kg) division, Uttarakhand’s Kapil Pokharia showcased his strength by securing a win over Madhya Pradesh’s Paras.
The bout in the super heavyweight (+92kg) category saw another Uttarakhand boxer, Narender, delivering a powerful performance to overcome Rajasthan’s Tarun Sharma.
Coming to the Women’s categories, in the light flyweight (50kg) division, Uttarakhand’s Nivedita Karki emerged victorious against Haryana’s Kalpana. The bantamweight (54kg) match saw Madhya Pradesh’s Divya Pawar overpower Uttar Pradesh’s Sonia to claim the title.
In the featherweight (57kg) category, Services Sports Control Board’s (SSCB) Sakshi delivered a commanding performance to defeat Himachal Pradesh’s Vinakshi Dhota. The lightweight (60kg) final featured another dominant SSCB athlete, as Jaismine outclassed Haryana’s Manisha.
Assam’s Ankushita Boro displayed her strength in the welterweight (66kg) division, overcoming Uttarakhand’s Kajal in a hard-fought bout. Meanwhile, in the middleweight (75kg) category, Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain of Assam secured a convincing win over Chandigarh’s Pranshu Rathore to reaffirm her dominance in the ring.
