Indian Table Tennis Squad for CWG Announced

Experienced Player Ayhika Mukherjee & Sutirtha Mukherjee miss out

 

Amid of a lot of controversy around the squad selection for the CWG 2022 Table Tennis squad the selectors named a team which is on expected lines going by the recent performances.

The women squad is subject to clearance from the Sports Authority of India as Archana Kamath who along with Manika are the World Rank 4 was selected despite not meeting the criteria set to select the squad which gives a weightage to the domestic performance as well.

The women Squad includes Manika Batra the top ranked women player from India, Archana Kamath her doubles partner and WR66, national champion Sreeja Akula WR69 and Reeth Tennison WR100. Diya Chitale the upcoming player from Maharashtra has been kept on standby.

Manika Batra the Star

At the last CWG Manika Batra was the star player from India bagging Team & Individual Gold Medal, Women Doubles Silver with legendary Mouma Das & Mixed Doubles Bronze Medal with Sathiyan. India had a fairly successfull campaign with both the Men & Women teams winning the Gold Medal playing some relentless TT while Men defeated the mighty Nigerian the Women got better of ever impressive Singaporean team.

Apart from Manika Sharath won a Individual Bronze Medal and combined with Sathiyan to win the Silver Medal in Men Doubles. Harmeet & Sanil grabbed the Bronze Medal in the Men Doubles category.

While there are still concerns on the Women squad due to the selection criteria the Men squad was pretty much picked up themselves. Top ranked G Sathiyan, the legendary Sharath Kamal & Harmeet Desai are in the team while Manush Shah is kept as standby.

The fifteen players who were part of the camp will be fielded at WTT Tour events in Zabreb, Ototec & Budapest in June & July as part of the preparation for the games.
