The Indian Open Jumps 2025, scheduled for March 22nd at the Anju Bobby George Academy, will witness some of India’s top jumpers beginning their new season.

Among them, former pole vault national record holder Siva Subramaniam, high jump star Sarvesh Kushare, and long jump sensation Ancy Sojan are set to compete, making this event a key early-season test.

Siva Subramaniam Returns to Competition

After a period away from competition, Siva Subramaniam is set to make his comeback at the Open Jumps. The former national record holder, with a personal best of 5.31m, last competed at the National Games, where his record was surpassed by Dev Meena, who cleared 5.32m.

However, since Meena’s mark is yet to be officially ratified by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), Subramaniam remains the official record holder.

His return will be highly anticipated, as he looks to reclaim his status as India’s best pole vaulter. Notably, Dev Meena will also be competing in the event but in the U20 category, making it an exciting contest between the country’s best emerging talent and the former record-holder.

Sarvesh Kushare Eyes a Strong Start to 2025

Asian Athletics silver medallist Sarvesh Kushare will also be in action, marking his first appearance of the 2025 season. The 2.27m jumper, who became the first Indian high jumper to qualify for the Olympics, is aiming to clear the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 qualification mark of 2.23m.

Kushare had an outstanding 2024 season, where he posted a season-best (SB) of 2.25m at the Inter-State Championships and clinched silver at the Asian Championships with a 2.26m clearance, narrowly losing to World Championship silver medallist Woo Sang-hyeok. This season opener will serve as a crucial indicator of his current form and Olympic-year ambitions.

Ancy Sojan Looks to Continue Her Momentum

Long jump star Ancy Sojan, the Asian Games silver medallist, is also set to begin her 2025 campaign at the Indian Open Jumps. The 23-year-old was one of India’s standout performers last year, finishing the season with a personal best of 6.71m at the Open Athletics 2024, which was the 2nd-best jump in Asia and the third-best in Indian history.

Ancy, who has been steadily improving, is eager to maintain that momentum, stating,

“I want to start my new season where I ended the last.” As mentioned to NNIS

With the Olympics on the horizon, this event will be her first step towards securing qualification and competing at the highest level.
