The India U-17 team secured their second consecutive victory in the Asia Cup qualifiers,
defeating Turkmenistan 1-0 at the Chonburi Stadium on Friday, October 25, 2024.
The Blue Colts continued their impressive form following a 13-0 triumph over Brunei Darussalam.
The first attempt came from Mohammed Kaif in the 6th minute, with a long-range shot that went
off target.
Midway through the first half, the Indian team intensified their attacks from the right flank but couldn’t find any gaps in Turkmenistan’s packed defense.
In the 35th minute, a long-range effort from Zangminlun was spilled by the goalkeeper into Lunkim’s path, who converted the chance, only for it to be ruled offside.
Another opportunity arose in the 37th minute when a cross found an Indian forward’s head, but the shot went wide.
India’s breakthrough came in the 44th minute when a powerful long-range shot from Lunkim
was fumbled by the goalkeeper, allowing Rishi to rifle the ball into the top corner.
India held the upper hand at halftime.
Turkmenistan came out aggressively in the second half, with Muhammedaly Nasyrov’s attempt
in the 52nd minute being comfortably saved by Indian goalkeeper Suraj Singh.
In the 69th minute, India had the ball in the net for the third time, only to see it disallowed again for offside.
India remained dominant, denying their opponents any clear chances.
The Blue Colts will face Thailand in their third and final group match on October 27 at 18:30 IST.
A win in this match is crucial for India to stay at the top of Group D, 10 group winners and the
five best second-placed teams will qualify for the final tournament
