Dhanlakshmi Goes Sub 23 Seconds to Surprise Safronova in 200m

Dhanalakshmi Clocks Third Fastest Indian Female time ever to win the 200m Event in Kazakhstan.

 

S Dhanalakshmi who has been in supreme form this year shocked the host nations favorite to claim the 200m title in the evening race. The much anticipated race between Dhanalakshmi, Dutee & Former Asian Games Champion Safronova was given the top billing at the Qosanov international athletics meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour event, in Almaty on Sunday.

Dhanalakshmi took the lead from the start and never looked back, when she finished the race it was the Third fastest Indian time behind Saraswati Saha who holds the NR at 22.82 and Hima Das 22.88 sec. Another Indian Dutee Chand was third with a time of 23.60s.

She however missed the automatic qualifying mark for the Oregon World Championships by a mere 0.09 seconds and it remains to be seen if she can make via the World Rankings which will be out in a couple of days.

She had clocked a 23.14 at the IGP IV in Patiala last year which was her personal best before this.
