India’s young boxing contingent continued to build momentum at the Asian Boxing U15 & U17 Championships 2026 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, delivering another day of strong performances across both U-15 and U-17 categories.

With a string of dominant victories and a few learning experiences against tough opponents, the Indian team once again demonstrated depth and competitive readiness at the continental level.

The U-15 boys’ category produced several standout performances, beginning with Nongpoknganba Meitei Oina (46kg), who secured a comprehensive 5:0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Abdurakhman Vushanlo. Oina controlled the bout from the outset, combining clean punching with effective movement to ensure a unanimous decision. A similarly dominant display came from Parshant (49kg), who mirrored the 5:0 scoreline against Bakdaulet Akhmet. His ability to maintain pressure while staying defensively compact proved decisive, allowing him to dictate the pace across all rounds.

Among the most eye-catching performances of the day was that of Mohd Yasser (58kg). He secured a win via RSC (Referee Stopped Contest) in the first round against Kyrgyzstan’s Akbarzhan Nabidzhanov. The early stoppage reflected a clear difference in intensity and execution, with Yasser overwhelming his opponent through aggressive combinations and precise timing.

Nivesh Pal (54kg) also impressed, delivering a 5:0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Adilet Galiyev. His performance was marked by consistency and control, ensuring that he maintained an advantage throughout the bout. In the 66kg category, Ranveer advanced after receiving a walkover against Chinese Taipei’s Ying-Chieh Chen. While the result did not involve ring action, progression at this stage remains crucial in a tournament where cumulative performance matters.

Not all results went India’s way in the U-15 division. Lilmani Singh Lukram (61kg) faced a strong challenge from Uzbekistan’s Azizbek Egamberganov and went down via RSC in the third round. Despite showing resilience, Lukram was unable to match his opponent’s pace and control in the later stages of the bout.

Similarly, Mehul Rana (70kg) suffered an RSC defeat in the opening round against Kazakhstan’s Ayan Bauyrzhan, highlighting the high level of competition across weight categories. The evening session in the U-17 boys’ category continued to reflect India’s competitive depth.

Nivesh Pal returned to the ring and maintained his strong form, registering another 5:0 victory over Adilet Galiyev. Delivering consistent performances across categories is a positive indicator of adaptability and endurance at this level. Ranveer also secured progression in the U-17 bracket, winning by ABD (abandonment) against Ying-Chieh Chen. Such outcomes often reflect dominance or an opponent’s inability to continue, reinforcing the Indian boxer’s control in the contest.

One of the most dominant performances in the U-17 category came from Lakshay Phogat (75kg). He clinched a first-round RSC victory against Sri Lanka’s Ranchigodagama Arachchila, showcasing both power and precision. The early stoppage highlighted his attacking intent and ability to finish bouts decisively.

However, the competition also presented challenges.

Pradeep (63kg) faced Uzbekistan’s Rushen Saydullaev and went down 0:5 in a bout where the opponent’s technical superiority proved decisive. Similarly, Hanjra Jaideep Singh (80kg) suffered a 0:5 defeat against Kazakhstan’s Alibek Alpamys, underlining the level of competition from traditional boxing powerhouses. Across both age groups, the pattern remains clear.

India’s young boxers are capable of delivering dominant performances, particularly when they control the tempo and execute their strategies effectively. At the same time, bouts against stronger or more experienced opponents highlight areas that require refinement particularly in handling pressure and adapting mid-fight. From a developmental perspective, tournaments like these are critical.

They expose young athletes to a range of styles, from the technical precision of Central Asian boxers to the aggressive approaches seen across other regions. Such exposure is essential for building versatility and preparing athletes for senior-level competition. Importantly, the frequency of RSC victories for Indian boxers reflects an increasing ability to finish bouts decisively a key trait at higher levels of competition.

At the same time, the defeats serve as valuable learning opportunities. For a young squad, the objective extends beyond immediate results. Each bout contributes to experience, tactical understanding and mental resilience all of which are essential for long-term success. As the championships progress in Tashkent, India’s contingent remains well-positioned. With multiple boxers advancing and maintaining strong form, the focus will now shift to sustaining consistency against tougher opposition in the later rounds.

If the performances so far are any indication, India’s next generation of boxers is steadily building the foundation required to compete and succeed on the continental stage.
