India’s women’s cricket team will return to home action in October 2026 with a landmark bilateral series against Zimbabwe, marking the first-ever international meeting between the two sides in women’s cricket.

The six-match white-ball tour, comprising three T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals, will be staged across Raipur and Baroda, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continues to expand the competitive calendar for the national team. The series will begin with the T20I leg in Raipur, scheduled for October 16, 18, and 20, before shifting to Baroda for the ODI matches on October 23, 25, and 28. The structure of the tour provides India with a balanced mix of formats, allowing them to fine-tune combinations in both the shortest and the 50-over versions of the game.

Beyond the novelty of facing Zimbabwe for the first time, the ODI series carries added significance as it will be India’s first 50-over assignment at home since their historic World Cup triumph in November 2025. That victory marked a major milestone for Indian women’s cricket, and the upcoming series offers the team an opportunity to reconnect with home fans in the format that delivered global success. Playing in Baroda, a venue with a strong cricketing culture, India will look to re-establish their dominance in ODIs while also experimenting with squad depth ahead of future international commitments. The timing of the series allows selectors to assess both experienced players and emerging talent in a competitive yet controlled environment.

For Zimbabwe, the tour represents a major step in their development pathway. It will be their first-ever visit to India for a women’s bilateral series, and notably, the two nations have never faced each other before at this level. The exposure to Indian conditions, coupled with the opportunity to play against one of the top teams in world cricket, is expected to be invaluable for Zimbabwe’s growth. From a broader perspective, the series reflects a conscious effort to expand the global footprint of women’s cricket by facilitating contests between established and emerging teams. For India, it provides a chance to test bench strength, while for Zimbabwe, it offers a platform to measure progress against elite opposition.

The tour begins with the T20I series in Raipur, with all three matches scheduled for 7:00 PM starts. The evening fixtures are likely to attract strong viewership, particularly given the increasing popularity of women’s T20 cricket.

  • 1st T20I – October 16 – Raipur

  • 2nd T20I – October 18 – Raipur

  • 3rd T20I – October 20 – Raipur

The action then shifts to Baroda for the ODI leg, with all matches set to begin at 2:00 PM.

  • 1st ODI – October 23 – Baroda

  • 2nd ODI – October 25 – Baroda

  • 3rd ODI – October 28 – Baroda

The scheduling allows for adequate recovery and preparation time between matches, ensuring optimal performance conditions for both teams.

For India, this series fits into a larger strategic framework aimed at maintaining continuity and performance standards across formats. With the team coming off a successful ODI World Cup campaign, the focus now shifts to sustaining that momentum while integrating younger players into the setup. The T20I series, in particular, will be closely watched as India continues to refine its approach in the shortest format. With global competitions becoming increasingly competitive, building depth and flexibility in squad combinations will be a key priority.

At the same time, the ODI matches will serve as an opportunity to reinforce the structures that contributed to the World Cup success from top-order stability to bowling discipline in the middle overs.

The announcement of the Zimbabwe series comes alongside a wider set of fixtures for Indian cricket, reflecting an increasingly structured domestic and international calendar. India A women are scheduled to host Australia A in September and England A in December, with both tours featuring multi-format contests. Additionally, the India Under-19 women’s team will host Sri Lanka and England later in the year, ensuring a steady pipeline of competitive exposure at the junior level. These developments underline a clear intent to strengthen the ecosystem across all tiers of women’s cricket in India.

The India-Zimbabwe series may not carry the weight of a marquee rivalry, but its significance lies in what it represents the continued expansion of opportunities within women’s cricket. For India, it is a chance to consolidate their position at the top while nurturing the next generation. For Zimbabwe, it is a rare and valuable opportunity to compete on a major stage. As October approaches, the focus will shift to team selections, combinations, and the narratives that emerge from this first-ever meeting. But beyond results, the series stands as another step in the steady growth of the women’s game one that is becoming increasingly competitive, inclusive, and globally connected.
