Parma Ladies Open 2024 presented by Iren is held at Tennis Club President in Parma, Italy, on red clay surface.
The tournament began on Tuesday, May 14th, with the Round of 32.
Indian tennis star Ankita Raina, ranked 269th, started her campaign with a wonderful win over Australian player Astra Sharma, ranked 130th, in 3 sets match 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Set 1: Ankita made a good start with her first service point, but later lost her track in game 3, and continuing to do so, and lost the first set to Astra 3-6.
Set 2: However Ankita did not lose her confidence and made a good start again, giving a tough fight to Astra in service points and drop shots, and secure a 6-4 win
Set 3: Dominating the 3rd set early Ankita maintained the control of the match, and forced her opponent Astra to make errors. Astra’s confidence waned as she made errors, leading Ankita to win the 3rd set 6-1 so well, And advanced to the Round of 16.
Ankita achieved her first WTA125 victory at a high level since August 2023. Despite her recent participation in the BJK Cup, where she struggled and suffered defeats, she has shown remarkable improvement and resilience at the Parma Open 2024.
Now in Round of 16 she will face Jule Niemeier, Germany on Wednesday 15th may.
