A massive new sports development is taking shape in the United States as construction begins on the Sports Performance Hub (SPH) in Homestead, Florida.

Valued at approximately $275 million, the ambitious project represents a new generation of sports infrastructure one that integrates elite performance facilities, youth development, education, sports medicine, and hospitality into a single ecosystem.

Backed by a consortium of investors that includes former professional athletes such as basketball legend Manu Ginóbili, the Sports Performance Hub aims to transform South Miami-Dade into a major destination for athlete development, sports tourism, and professional competition.

A New Vision for Sports Infrastructure

The Sports Performance Hub is being constructed on the grounds of Homestead Regional Park, located about 35 miles south of downtown Miami. Spread across more than 90 acres, the development is designed as a multi-disciplinary sports campus combining professional facilities with youth pathways and educational programs.

Unlike traditional stadium-centered projects, the Sports Performance Hub follows a modern model that places athlete development and year-round activity at its core. The development will function not just as a sports venue but as a complete performance ecosystem supporting athletes from youth to professional levels.

At the heart of the campus will be a 10,000-seat multi-purpose stadium, which will become the new home ground of Miami FC. The stadium is designed to host professional soccer matches as well as concerts, regional events, and other sporting competitions.

Integrated Sports and Education Ecosystem

One of the defining elements of the Sports Performance Hub is its focus on combining sports training with academic development. The campus will feature a residential youth boarding school capable of hosting around 600 student-athletes, offering both academic education and high-performance sports training. This structure aims to create a pipeline for emerging athletes across multiple sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, and American football.

Developers believe this integrated model where athletes train, study, and live within the same environment will accelerate development while providing a structured pathway to professional sport.

The facility will also include:

  • Professional multi-sport training academies
  • Advanced sports medicine and rehabilitation centre
  • Sports-themed hotel and hospitality infrastructure
  • High-performance training fields and upgraded sports grounds

Together, these components are intended to create a year-round ecosystem supporting athletes at every stage of their development.

A Privately Funded Model

One of the most significant aspects of the project is its financial structure. Unlike many stadium developments that rely heavily on public funding, the Sports Performance Hub is 100% privately financed, reducing the burden on taxpayers while still generating economic benefits for the region.

The project is being developed under an 80-year lease agreement with the City of Homestead, ensuring long-term stability while allowing the land to remain publicly owned. The agreement also includes revenue-sharing mechanisms such as per-ticket contributions from stadium events and hotel occupancy revenue streams for the city.

City officials have highlighted the development as a model for how private investment can activate underutilized public assets while driving economic growth.

The scale of the project is expected to deliver substantial economic benefits to the region.

Construction of the Sports Performance Hub is projected to create over 4,300 construction jobs, while the fully operational campus is expected to support more than 600 permanent jobs across sectors including sports coaching, sports medicine, hospitality, event management, and facility operations.

Beyond employment, the project is expected to transform Homestead into a sports tourism destination, attracting athletes, teams, and visitors from across North America and Latin America. Local businesses including hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments are also expected to benefit from the increased visitor flow associated with tournaments, training camps, and sporting events hosted at the facility. A notable feature of the Sports Performance Hub is the involvement of former professional athletes in the project’s leadership.

Alongside Manu Ginóbili, the investor group includes several prominent sports figures and executives, bringing firsthand knowledge of elite athlete development. Their involvement reflects a growing trend in the global sports industry where former athletes are increasingly taking leadership roles in sports infrastructure projects.

The vision behind the development is to create the kind of environment that many elite athletes believe was missing during their own formative years one where performance training, recovery science, education, and competition coexist within the same ecosystem.

Despite its elite ambitions, the project also includes significant benefits for the local community. Developers have committed to upgrading recreational infrastructure within Homestead Regional Park, including new tennis and pickleball courts, renovated baseball fields, walking trails, playgrounds, and multi-use community spaces.

Existing youth sports programs, including community soccer initiatives, will continue to have access to the facilities, ensuring that the development remains integrated with local sports participation.

The Sports Performance Hub reflects a broader shift in the global sports economy.

Modern sports developments are increasingly moving beyond single-purpose stadiums toward integrated ecosystems that combine athlete development, education, healthcare, hospitality, and entertainment. These multi-layered complexes generate revenue throughout the year rather than relying solely on matchday events, making them more sustainable economically while also strengthening youth development pathways.

In this model, the stadium is no longer the central asset. Instead, the surrounding infrastructure training academies, medical facilities, and youth pipelines becomes the long-term driver of value.

Construction of the Sports Performance Hub is expected to unfold in multiple phases, with the initial sports infrastructure and training academies targeted for completion first, followed by the stadium, hotel, and residential facilities. Full completion of the campus is expected by 2028. Once operational, the project could serve as a blueprint for future sports-driven urban development not only in the United States but globally.

For Homestead, the Sports Performance Hub represents more than just a new sports facility. It signals a transformation of the region into a destination where elite competition, youth development, and sports innovation converge under one roof.
