The Women’s Premier League, WPL 2026 Auction in New Delhi on November 27 is shaping up to be the league’s most competitive talent marketplace yet.

With 277 total players registering for just 73 squad openings, the fight for selection has never been fiercer. But nowhere is the battle more intense than in the Indian domestic pool, where 194 Indian players including 52 capped and 142 uncapped talents will compete for only 50 Indian slots.

This creates the toughest talent-to-slot ratio in the auction: 3.88 Indian players per available spot, meaning two-thirds of the domestic pool will not find a franchise this year. The pressure on teams to find the right Indian core especially with league rules demanding that all squads fill their domestic quota ensures that Indian performers from the 2025 domestic season will command enormous interest.

Amid this competitive churn, several Indian players have surged to the top of scouting lists thanks to their outstanding form across the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy and the Inter-Zonal T20 competitions.

Kiran Navgire: A Power-Hitting Outlier in a League Starving for Finishers

In a player market where domestic power-hitters are rare, Kiran Navgire stands out as one of the most attractive Indian batting options.

Her numbers have been extraordinary:

  • Strike rate of 235.35 in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy
  • Strike rate of 177.53 in the Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy

Both were the highest in their respective competitions. Navgire also broke global headlines when she smashed a 34-ball T20 century, beating Sophie Devine’s 36-ball record. Her ability to clear boundaries with ease gives teams a skill set that is extremely scarce among Indian uncapped batters. With high demand for domestic middle-order hitters and an auction structure where Indian players must fill the majority of squad slots Navgire is primed to attract multiple bidders.

Vaishnavi Sharma: The Most Valuable Teen Spinner in the Pool

India’s U-19 World Cup winning spinner Vaishnavi Sharma enters the auction as one of the strongest uncapped bowling prospects.

Her wicket-taking consistency has been exceptional:

  • 21 wickets – most in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy
  • 12 wickets – joint-most in the Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy

Left-arm spin remains a premium commodity in the WPL, and Vaishnavi offers both control and wicket-taking ability qualities franchises desperately need, especially given the small supply of Indian impact bowlers. For high-purse franchises like UP Warriorz (₹14.5 crore) and Gujarat Giants (₹9 crore) both of whom must rebuild large portions of their squads Vaishnavi fits perfectly into long-term planning.

Vrinda Dinesh: Redemption Through Run-Making

After an inconsistent WPL 2025, Vrinda Dinesh has rebuilt her reputation emphatically in the domestic season. Her tally of 316 runs in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy made her the third-highest run-scorer, with a top score of 118*, one of the tournament’s standout innings. In a market where quality Indian top-order batters are limited, Vrinda’s revival comes at the perfect time.

Teams such as Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians both operating with restricted purses of around ₹5.7 crore and needing to fill 13 slots each will likely view Vrinda as a high-value, low-base-price target.

Humaira Kazi: Mumbai’s Reliable Run-Machine

Mumbai’s Humaira Kazi has had one of the strongest domestic seasons of any Indian batter.

With 320 runs, 50 boundaries, and five sixes, she finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy. Her ability to play both anchor and aggressor roles gives her versatility that teams crave in the No. 3–5 positions a segment where Indian depth is historically shallow.

Anuja Patil: The Experienced Winner

Maharashtra captain Anuja Patil continues to prove why experience matters. Her leadership and consistency helped Maharashtra clinch the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.

Her returns of 17 wickets in the Senior Women’s Trophy, 11 more wickets in the Inter-Zonal T20 highlight a bowler in complete command of her skills.

In the 2026 auction landscape where financially constrained teams must prioritize reliable Indian bowlers Anuja is positioned as a key target. Her powerplay control makes her especially valuable for sides lacking Indian all-round depth.

The WPL 2026 Auction is more than a talent market it is a structural test for scouting depth across franchises. The mandatory domestic squad requirements, combined with intense competition ratios and uneven purse distribution, mean that domestic performers from the 2025 season will shape the direction of the league.

For these Indian women cricketers, this auction represents more than opportunity it is the chance to step into the WPL spotlight and define the league’s next generation of Indian stars.
