In what marks one of the most significant developments in Indian basketball history, the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) and ACG Sports Pvt. Ltd. have officially launched the country’s first dedicated residential Basketball High Performance Centre (HPC) in Bengaluru.

The announcement comes as a precursor to the India Basketball League (IBL) India’s first professional basketball league which will debut in 2026.

The partnership, first announced in June, represents a 15-year strategic commitment to athlete development, infrastructure excellence, and the creation of a sustainable basketball ecosystem that connects grassroots talent with global standards of play.

Situated at the Lakshyan Academy, the newly launched HPC is the first purpose-built facility in India dedicated solely to elite basketball development. Designed as a year-round, fully residential campus, it aims to produce athletes capable of competing internationally while acting as the performance foundation for the upcoming India Basketball League.

The centre features three FIBA-standard courts, a high-performance gymnasium, and a 25-metre world-class swimming pool. Complementing these physical assets is a comprehensive sports science division housing biomechanics, nutrition, physiotherapy, and mental conditioning units all integrated under one roof to ensure holistic athlete development.

Technology-Driven Training: A ‘Phygital’ Approach

The IBL High Performance Centre takes a forward-looking approach by integrating digital technology into every aspect of athlete training. Advanced wearable devices track real-time biometrics and movement data, while AI-powered smart courts equipped with high-speed cameras and sensors analyze gameplay and training sessions.

These systems feed into digital dashboards that coaches can access in real time, enabling them to tailor programs for each player with unmatched precision. The HPC also includes interactive classrooms where athletes study film, analyze tactical plays, and engage in digital learning modules designed to deepen basketball IQ.

The vision extends beyond performance. The HPC incorporates creative and lifestyle elements aimed at shaping confident, media-savvy professionals. Facilities such as recording studios, a basketball-themed barbershop, and a podcast production space will allow athletes to cultivate their personal brands and connect with fans. Nutrition and community are given equal importance, with customized menus, protein bars, and social dining spaces designed to foster both health and team culture.

As ACG Sports Managing Director Karan Singh noted, “To build a great league, you must first build great players. To build great players, you need world-class facilities and experts. Today we are delivering on that promise creating an ecosystem that nurtures talent, passion, and a future for Indian basketball.”

The HPC forms the first pillar of a larger, long-term framework—one that connects state-level scouting, elite training, and professional competition with a clear pathway to represent India at events such as the FIBA Asia Cup, Asian Games, World Cup, and Olympic Games.

BFI President Aadhav Arjuna emphasized the significance:

“The India Basketball League represents years of vision becoming reality. Basketball is an Olympic sport, and this initiative is about building national heroes and a basketball culture that resonates across the country. With the HPC ready and the league launching next year, we’re setting new standards for Indian sport and creating opportunities for generations.”

The India Basketball League: A Professional Platform for Indian Talent

The India Basketball League (IBL) will serve as the country’s first fully professional basketball competition, designed to give athletes a domestic platform on par with global leagues. The league’s technical framework is led by Martin Clarke, with experienced international coaches Scott Flemming and Sarah Galler playing pivotal roles in shaping both the training environment and the competitive structure.

IBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger credited the collaboration behind the initiative:

“The IBL and the HPC are two sides of the same vision a sustainable, world-class basketball ecosystem rooted in Indian culture yet aligned with international excellence. Our aim is to build foundations that will last generations and produce athletes who can become ambassadors of India’s sporting renaissance.”

Next Step: IBL Invitational Combine

The journey begins with the IBL Invitational Combine, scheduled for November 22–24, 2025, in Bengaluru. This exclusive showcase will feature India’s top basketball talent and serve as the first stage of a nationwide talent identification pathway. Following the Combine, a series of All-India regional tryouts, organized in association with the BFI and state associations, will expand the talent search to every corner of the country. Details of the try-out schedule, league venues, and participating cities will be announced in the coming months.
