The RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League PVL 2025 powered by Scapia is all set for its grandest moment yet the Season 4 Final between Mumbai Meteors and Bengaluru Torpedoes on Sunday at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium.
After weeks of fierce competition, tactical masterclasses, and spectacular rallies, the two most consistent sides of the season will now battle for supremacy in what promises to be a pulsating finale of power, precision, and passion. The atmosphere ahead of the title clash is one of excitement and mutual respect. At the pre-final press conference, both teams’ coaches and captains reflected on their journeys so far, their mindset going into the final, and the importance of staying grounded in the biggest match of the season.
The Mumbai Meteors have been the standout team of PVL 2025, topping the league table with six wins in seven matches, amassing 17 points along the way. Their brand of volleyball high tempo, emotionally charged, and tactically disciplined has made them both entertaining and effective.
Head Coach Matt van Wezel praised Bengaluru’s structured play while outlining his team’s approach heading into the showdown. “They are very disciplined, so just avoiding mistakes is not enough to beat them tomorrow. We will have to do more than that,” he said, acknowledging the Torpedoes’ defensive organisation and balanced gameplay.
Wezel, known for his detail-oriented coaching style, stressed mental composure as Mumbai’s biggest weapon. “Our focus is on playing every ball as if it’s the most important one in life,” he explained. “That mindset keeps the pressure under control and allows the players to perform freely, no matter the situation.” Leading from the front will be Captain Amit Gulia, who echoed his coach’s sentiments about focus and resilience. “We don’t have to think much about the last point we lost we have to think about the next one,” Gulia said. “We’ve found our rhythm again at the perfect time. The team is feeling confident, united, and ready for the challenge.”
Bengaluru Torpedoes: Hungry for Redemption
The Bengaluru Torpedoes, who finished second in the standings with five wins in seven matches (14 points), have been the embodiment of fighting spirit throughout the season. Led by their American coach David Lee, an Olympic gold medallist and former captain of the US national team, Bengaluru are eyeing redemption after finishing runners-up in the 2023 season. Lee was full of praise for the Meteors’ consistency but maintained that the final will ultimately depend on his team’s execution. “Mumbai have been one of the most consistent teams out here,” he said. “But it’s going to be about how we play.
We have to stay aggressive, serve well, pass well, and control the rhythm of the game. If we do that, we give ourselves the best chance to win.”

For Lee, winning the title this season would be a culmination of years of effort and belief. “It would be icing on the cake to bring home a championship for Bengaluru,” he said, highlighting the team’s “cultural thing to fight till the end” a philosophy that has come to define the Torpedoes’ identity.
Team captain Matt West added a touch of perspective and calmness, reminding his teammates to trust their processes. “Don’t change. It’s not where you are, it’s who you are,” he told his squad. “Just execute. If you’re good enough that day, you win. If not, the other team wins. That’s the beauty of sport.”
The PVL 2025 final is not just a clash of two teams it’s a duel of styles, skill sets, and strategies.
For Mumbai Meteors, attacker Shubham Chaudhary has been their star performer, tallying 102 points, just one shy of Bengaluru’s Joel Benjamin, the league’s top scorer with 103 points. Chaudhary’s combination of sharp angles and aggressive spikes has made him a nightmare for defenders, and his matchup against Bengaluru’s middle blockers could prove decisive. The Meteors’ Norwegian import Petter Alstad Ostvik has also been exceptional in defence, ranking among the league’s top five blockers alongside his teammate Chaudhary giving Mumbai a dual advantage at the net.
Bengaluru’s threat, however, lies in their explosive serving and balanced offensive play. Sethu, the Torpedoes’ dynamic server, has been the best in the league this season, recording 11 service points, tied with Goa’s Rohit Yadav. His ability to put opponents under immediate pressure from the service line will be crucial in disrupting Mumbai’s rhythm early in the match. Meanwhile, Joel Penrose and Benjamin form one of the most lethal attacking duos in the tournament, capable of switching tempo and direction effortlessly. Their understanding with West and libero Ravindra Lakra has been the backbone of Bengaluru’s run to the final.
Experience vs First-Time Finalists
While this is Mumbai’s first-ever appearance in a PVL final, the Torpedoes bring the experience of having been here before. Their 2023 campaign under the same coach ended in heartbreak, losing to Ahmedabad Defenders in the final. That experience, Lee believes, could make all the difference this time.
“The players who were there in 2023 know what a final feels like the noise, the nerves, the expectations,” Lee said. “We’ll use that experience positively. But ultimately, it will come down to execution on the day.”
For Mumbai, the lack of final experience is offset by momentum and form. They have been the most complete team in Season 4, boasting the best attack-to-defence balance and demonstrating an ability to close tight matches. Their semifinal win over Chennai Blitz showcased their resilience rallying from behind in both sets to secure a 3–1 victory.
As both camps prepare for the title decider, the mood in Hyderabad is electric. The Gachibowli Indoor Stadium which has been the home of some of PVL’s most dramatic moments is expected to host a capacity crowd, with tickets already sold out for the grand finale.
The Meteors are chasing history aiming to win their first-ever title in just their second season. The Torpedoes, on the other hand, seek redemption and validation for years of consistent performances. For the players, it’s about more than just silverware. It’s a chance to define their legacy in one of India’s fastest-growing sporting leagues.
“We’ve prepared all season for this moment,” Gulia said. “It’s not just another match; it’s an opportunity to show the best version of ourselves.” West, equally composed, summed up the sentiment from Bengaluru’s camp: “We’re here to enjoy the moment and play our brand of volleyball. That’s all that matters. Two great teams, one great final may the best team win.”
