The fencing competitions at the 38th National Games, held in Uttarakhand, concluded with gripping matches.
On the final day, events for the Men’s Sabre Team, Women’s Épée Team, and Women’s Foil Team took place, where Services, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu claimed gold medals in their respective categories.
In the Men’s Sabre Team event, eight teams participated, with Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Services advancing to the semifinals.
The first semifinal saw Maharashtra securing a 45-37 victory against Jammu & Kashmir, while Services triumphed over Punjab with a close 45-41 win in the second semifinal.
The final match was a fierce contest between Maharashtra and Services, but the Services team displayed exceptional skill and strategy to claim victory with a 45-37 score, securing the gold medal. Maharashtra settled for silver, while Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab shared the bronze medal.
The Women’s Épée Team event featured eight teams, with Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Manipur making it to the semifinals. Haryana outplayed Punjab 42-34 in the first semifinal, while Manipur defeated Chandigarh 45-27 in the second semifinal.
The final saw Haryana delivering a commanding performance, defeating Manipur 45-30 to secure the gold medal. Manipur claimed silver, while Punjab and Chandigarh earned the bronze.
Whereas, in the Women’s Foil Team competition, eight teams competed, with Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Haryana, and Chhattisgarh advancing to the semifinals.
Tamil Nadu dominated Manipur with a 45-31 victory in the first semifinal, while Haryana secured a 45-28 win against Chhattisgarh in the second semifinal.
The final match between Tamil Nadu and Haryana was highly competitive, but Tamil Nadu emerged victorious with a 45-38 win to claim the gold medal. Haryana settled for silver, while Manipur and Chhattisgarh took home the bronze medals.
With the conclusion of the fencing competitions, the 38th National Games witnessed outstanding performances from athletes, making it an impressive event for sports enthusiasts.
