India has won both the T20 and ODI series quite comfortably.
This will be a new start after the retirement of Indian stalwart Mithali Raj. Harmanpreet Kaur who has taken over the responsibility
has started off well. This series also acts as a practice before the Commonwealth games where teams from Australia, England, and NZ are set to take part.
Jemimah Rodrigues was back to the Indian squad after missing out on the 50 over WC. She made a good return scoring 36 where most of the Indian batters were struggling. She along with Deepti Sharma were the stars scoring maximum runs in the death and getting the score to a respectable total.
Renuka Singh was the standout performer for India both in the T20 and the ODI format. With the absence of Jhulan Goswami, it was up to Renuka and Pooja Vastrakar to fill up the gap left by the legend. Renuka in particular made her debut in the NZ series earlier this year and was also part of the Indian WC squad but did not play a single game.
Renuka’s economy in the T20 was just above 6 taking 2 wickets. In the ODI’s she had taken 7 wickets in 3 matches and overall has 10 wickets in the 5 matches played. Harmanpreet Kaur was India’s highest run-scorer in T20I with 92 runs and 2 nd highest in the ODI with
119 runs. She played a very crucial knock in the 3 rd ODI where India was down to 124/6 stitching up a partnership along with all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar and taking the score to above 250.
Pooja Vastrakar is turning out to be an excellent fast bowling all-rounder India was looking for. Since the WC she has been playing some crucial knocks in the death overs and also picking up wickets at a good economy. She scored 77 runs in the series with 55 coming in the 3 rd ODI when India was in trouble. Also, she has picked up 4 wickets at an economy of less than 5.
The Indian top-order too looked good with an unbeaten 171 runs partnership in the 2 nd ODI. Shafali Verma ends the series with 155 runs at an SR of 96.27. Overall India apart from winning 6 crucial ICC World Championship points has also had a good game time before the CWG games where women’s cricket will be contested for the 1st time.
