The Indian men’s hockey team beat Japan 1-0 to clinch the bronze medal in the Asia Cup on Wednesday. It had missed out on a chance to reach the Asia Cup 2022 final after playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw against South Korea.

ITF women’s tennis tournament, Chiang Rai, Thailand
Rutuja Bhosale beat Natsuho Arakawa of Japan 6-2, 7-6(4) in the first round. Karman Kaur Thandi also made the second round, while Riya Bhatia went down fighting in three sets to the second seed Peangtarn Plipuech of Thailand.
Badminton
Defending champion India will have an easy entry into the knockout stage of the badminton event of the Commonwealth Games as it has been drawn against Australia, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan in Group 1 of the mixed team competition. A total of 16 teams will be competing in the mixed event, and they have been drawn into four groups, with the top two nations progressing to the knockout stage.

ISSF World Cup, Baku, Azerbaijan
Swapnil Kusale shot the second best score of 591 behind Serhiy Kulish of Ukraine in qualifying for the knock-out stage of men’s 50-metre rifle 3-position event. Goldi Gurjar (585), Deepak Kumar (583) placed 14th and 23rd in a field of 53 shooters, had made it to the qualification from the elimination round.

Viswanathan Anand produced a positional masterpiece to outwit Frenchman Maxime Lagrave-Vachier in 40 moves to make a winning start. Wesley So was the only other winner of the day in the 10-player round-robin event after facing Teimour Radjabov.
