The action at the National Games boxing took center stage at the Shri Hari Singh Thapa Sports College Indoor Stadium in Pithoragarh from January 29 to February 7, showcasing intense battles and thrilling matchups.

The event featured some of India’s finest, who stepped into the ring to fight for national glory.

The men’s boxing events witnessed sheer dominance from SSCB, as they clinched 5 out of 7 gold medals, while the host state, Uttarakhand, claimed the remaining two titles.

In the women’s division, Assam and SSCB secured two golds each, with Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh bagging one apiece, making for a fiercely competitive showdown.

The men’s and women’s finals result at a glance

In the men’s 51kg category, National Champion Jadumani Singh (SSCB) showcased his dominance, securing the gold by defeating Anshul Punia from Chandigarh. The 57kg final saw an impressive performance from Sachin Siwach (SSCB), who outclassed Ashish Kumar (HP) to claim the top podium spot.

Vanshaj (SSCB), who had an early exit in the National Championships, made a roaring comeback, reclaiming his form and glory by overcoming the formidable Shiva Thapa (Assam) to win gold in the 63.5kg division.

Meanwhile, Hitesh Gulia (SSCB) emerged victorious against Abhinab Saikia (Assam), further extending SSCB’s golden run.

The 80kg final featured another National Champion, Lakshay Chahar (SSCB), who defeated home favourite Himanshu Solanki, dashing Uttarakhand’s hopes in the category.

However, the hosts finally had their moment of celebration when Kapil Pokharia delivered a stellar performance to defeat Paras (MP) in the 92kg final.

Capping off the men’s boxing finals, National Champion Narender (UTK) reaffirmed his supremacy in the ring, claiming gold with a commanding win over Tarun Sharma (RAJ).

Uttarakhand had another reason to celebrate in the women’s boxing events as Nivedita Karki clinched gold in the 50kg category, bringing pride to the host state.

In the 54kg final, Divya Pawar ensured Madhya Pradesh’s place on the top podium, securing gold with a solid win over Sonia from Uttar Pradesh.

SSCB continued its dominance in the ring, with Sakshi claiming the 57kg title and Jaismine outpunching Manisha to triumph in the 60kg category.

Their performance reflected the sheer depth of talent in the Services squad, proving once again why they are a powerhouse in national boxing.

Assam’s star boxers lived up to expectations, delivering stellar performances. Youth World Champion Ankushita Boro asserted her supremacy in the 66kg category, displaying sheer dominance on her way to gold.

Meanwhile, the biggest headliner of the event, Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain, reinforced her national stature with a commanding victory in the 75kg category, adding yet another gold to her illustrious career.

Lovlina’s triumph not only cemented her status as a boxing icon but also inspired the next generation of Indian women boxers to aim for greater heights on the international stage.
