The Indian senior men’s football team head coach, Manolo Márquez,on Monday, announced a 26 member probables list for the Tri-Nation friendly tournament to be held in Vietnam during the October FIFA International Match Window.
The Blue Tigers are set to take on hosts Vietnam on October 9, followed by Lebanon on October 12, at Thiên Trường Stadium in Nam Định. The final 23 player roster will be announced before the team departs for Vietnam.
India endured a disappointing performance in the Intercontinental Cup earlier last month, struggling to make an impact.
They were held to a goalless draw against Mauritius, followed by a crushing 3-0 defeat to eventual champions Syria.
The inability to find the back of the net in both games has added to the mounting pressure on head coach Manolo Márquez.
He now faces the challenge of revitalizing his squad as they prepare for the next tournament. Players will also be eager to find their rhythm in this tournament.
Significant additions to the squad include Vishal Kaith, Aakash Sangwan, Lalrinliana Hnamte, and Farukh Chaudhary, who were not part of the Indian team that competed in the recently concluded Intercontinental Cup.
India last played Vietnam on September 27, 2022, in an international friendly match, which Vietnam won 3-0. In contrast, India won their last encounter against Lebanon 2-0 on June 18, 2023, in the final of the Intercontinental Cup.
