The 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships in Malaysia saw exceptional performances from India’s cyclists, with Harshita Jakhar and Ronaldo Laitonjam leading the charge in junior and senior categories, respectively.

Held from February 21 to 27, 2025, at the Velodrom Nasional Malaysia in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, the event showcased India’s rising prominence in competitive track cycling.

India’s Standout Performances at the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships

India’s track cycling team, consisting of 47 members(38 athletes, 5 coaches, and 4 support staff), delivered stellar performances across the competition. This event proved to be a vital platform for Indian cyclists to demonstrate their talent on the international stage. Here are the top results from both the senior and junior events:

Men’s Elite Team Sprint: 4th place
Men’s Elite Keirin (Esow Alben): 4th place
Men’s 1km Time Trial (Ronaldo Laitonjam): 5th place

Junior Women’s Point Race (Harshita Jakhar): Silver medal
Women’s Team Pursuit: Bronze medal
Women’s 1km Time Trial (Harshita Jakhar): Bronze medal

Harshita Jakhar’s Dominance in Junior Women’s Events

Harshita Jakhar emerged as one of the top performers at the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships, claiming the silver medal in the Junior Women’s Point Race. She finished with 405 points, behind Tsai Tung Wen of Chinese Taipei, who earned 450 points, and ahead of Samira Ismailova from Uzbekistan, who secured third place with 360 points.

Harshita also earned a bronze medal in the Women’s 1km Time Trial and contributed to India’s bronze medalin the Women’s Team Pursuit, marking a highly successful outing in the junior category.

Ronaldo Laitonjam’s Impressive Performance in Men’s 1km Time Trial

In the Men’s 1km Time Trial, Ronaldo Laitonjam secured a spot in the final with a remarkable time of 1:01.238. This performance placed him among the top five, alongside other elite cyclists, including Qi Liu from China, Ryuto Ichida from Japan, Muhammad FadhilZonis from Malaysia, and Kirill Kurdidi from Kazakhstan.

At just 22 years old, Ronaldo, a native of Manipur, has already made a name for himself internationally, winning multiple medals, including two silver medals, at previous Asian Championships.
