Aryaveer Dewan Ends India’s Wait for U19 Asian Junior Squash Title With Dominant Triumph

India’s rising squash star Aryaveer Dewan scripted history at the Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships 2026 in China, clinching the prestigious Boys’ U19 title with a commanding straight-games victory in the final.
The young Indian defeated South Korea’s Jonghyeok Lee 3-0 (11-2, 11-7, 11-9) in a dominant performance to become the first Indian male player to win the U19 Asian Junior title since 2019.
Aryaveer’s triumph marked another major moment for Indian squash, which continues to produce talented youngsters capable of competing consistently at the continental and global level. His victory also made him only the fourth Indian ever to win the Boys’ U19 Asian title, underlining the significance of the achievement.
Coming into the tournament as the defending Asian U17 champion, Aryaveer had already established himself as one of India’s brightest junior prospects. However, stepping into the U19 category and winning the continental crown so convincingly showcased his rapid development and maturity on court.
The final itself was largely one-sided.
Aryaveer looked in complete control from the opening rally, dominating the first game 11-2 with aggressive shot-making, excellent movement and remarkable composure. His ability to dictate the pace of rallies immediately put the Korean player under pressure.
The second game was more competitive, but Aryaveer continued to maintain control with his accurate length hitting and sharp retrieval skills. He secured the game 11-7 to move one step away from the title. In the third game, Jonghyeok Lee attempted to fight back and stayed close for most of the contest. But Aryaveer once again showed calmness under pressure, producing crucial points at key moments to close out the match 11-9 and seal the biggest title of his junior career.
The victory capped off a brilliant campaign for the Indian youngster, who displayed consistency, tactical maturity and confidence throughout the tournament.
Indian squash has traditionally enjoyed strong success in junior competitions across Asia, but Aryaveer’s title carries added importance because of the long wait for an Indian male U19 champion. The last Indian to achieve the feat came in 2019, and Aryaveer has now revived that winning legacy.
His triumph also reflects the strong pipeline of talent emerging from India’s junior squash system. Over the past decade, Indian squash has steadily grown into one of Asia’s leading nations, producing stars like Saurav Ghosal, Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal at the senior level. The next generation now appears ready to continue that progress.
Apart from Aryaveer’s gold medal, India enjoyed an excellent overall campaign at the championships, finishing with a total tally of one gold, three silver and four bronze medals across different age categories.
In the Boys’ U13 category, Amarya Bajaj secured a silver medal after an impressive run to the final, while Abhyuday Arora added a bronze medal to India’s tally.
The Girls’ U13 category also saw India produce two medal-winning performances, with Shanaya Parasrampuria and Divyanshi Jain both claiming bronze medals after strong campaigns. In the Boys’ U17 event, Shiven Agarwal fought his way to the final before settling for silver, while Lokesh Subramani secured a bronze medal. The performances of both players once again highlighted India’s depth in junior squash.
Meanwhile, in the Girls’ U17 category, Anika Dubey earned a silver medal after an impressive tournament run.
The overall medal haul underlined India’s growing strength across multiple age groups and categories. More importantly, it showed that Indian squash continues to build a strong junior foundation capable of sustaining success at the senior international level in the future. Aryaveer’s triumph will particularly generate excitement because of the manner in which he dominated older opponents throughout the event. Winning a U19 Asian title requires not only technical quality but also physical endurance and mental toughness, qualities that the Indian youngster demonstrated consistently.
The win is also likely to boost Aryaveer’s confidence significantly as he prepares to transition towards senior-level competitions in the coming years. Several top Indian squash players have used junior Asian titles as stepping stones towards successful international careers, and Aryaveer will now hope to follow a similar path. For Indian squash fans, the latest performances offer another reminder of the country’s growing reputation as a major force in Asian squash. While nations like Malaysia, Pakistan and Hong Kong have traditionally dominated the sport in Asia, India’s steady rise in both junior and senior categories has become increasingly visible.
The Asian Junior Championships once again showcased that progress. As Aryaveer Dewan stood on the podium with the gold medal around his neck, it represented not just a personal triumph but also another proud chapter for Indian squash.
At a time when the sport continues to search for its next global stars, India may already have found one in Aryaveer Dewan.
