India had a disappointing start to the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship in Shotgun currently being held in Doha, Qatar.
None of the Indian trap shooters could qualify for the finals and thereby missed out on their final chance to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
In the Men’s Trap event, Prithviraj Tondaiman finished 23rd with a score of 119 while Vivaan Kapoor (116) and the seasoned Zoravar Singh Sandhu (114) finished 56th & 82nd respectively in a field of 140. The last qualifying score for the finals was 121.
In the Women’s Trap event, Manisha Keer (111), Neeru (107) & Shreyasi Singh (106) finished 37th, 55th & 56th respectively in a field of 79. The final qualifying score for the finals was 118.
There are two additional quotas remaining in both sections of the Trap discipline. These will be allocated via the Qualification Ranking for the Olympic Games (QROG). However, the Indian athletes are not ranked high enough in both sections of the rankings with Prithviraj Tondaiman being the highest-ranked Indian at 14. But with four athletes ahead of him in the rankings and only one eligible to qualify via the 2024 European Shotgun Championships, he looks unlikely to qualify for Paris.
This brings an end to India’s qualifying campaign in the Trap discipline.
Earlier, India had won a quota in Men’s & Women’s disciplines at the World Championships courtesy of Bhowneesh Mendiratta and Rajeshwari Kumari.
The skeet shooters will be in action starting later this week in their last attempt to qualify for Paris. Areeba Khan, Maheshwari Chauhan, and Ganemat Sekhon will be in action in the Women’s section while Angad Vir Singh Bahwa, Mairaj Ahmad Khan, and Sheeraz Sheikh will fight it out in the Men’s section.
